Title :   Emergency Services/ Rapid Access Specialists

General Statement of the Job : This position is an integral part of the emergency care continuum within Smoky Mountain Center. The primary assignment of this position is the rapid access/walk-in clinic. Will be responsible for the clinical assessment, treatment and referrals for individuals seeking services through Smoky Mountain Center’s Rapid Access program. This position will work scheduled hours Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm, but may also include some weekends and holiday shifts as needed to support the Mobile Crisis Teams. Duties will include scheduling appointments, completing assessments, gathering information, brief interventions and referrals. This position will support all SMC programs as needed.

Essential Job Functions : Knowledge of general mental health and substance abuse best practices and ethical guidelines of profession. Specific knowledge of emergency psychiatric assessment and referral, crisis intervention, risk assessment and psychiatric consultation. Knowledge of DSM IV and diagnostic assessment. Thorough knowledge of clinical principles, techniques and practices and their application to complex casework, group work and psychosocial problems and their treatment. Considerable knowledge of family and group dynamics and a range of crisis intervention techniques. Excellent organizational skills are also necessary. It is extremely important that staff are team players who can perform several duties at a time. Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Excellent oral and written communication skills are also needed.

Minimum Training and Qualifications : LCSW or LCAS preferred but will consider other licensed or provisionally licensed clinical staff depending upon experience. Requires annual TB screening (PPD skin test), Physical, and Medical Records Training. Pre-employment drug trust will be conducted.

Physical Requirements : Must be physically able to operate a variety of office machines, tools and equipment; such as the telephone, computer, typewriter, copier, facsimile, etc. Must be able to use body members to work, move, or carry objects/materials. Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to ten pounds of force frequently. .

Knowledge of Job : Experience in emergency services, inpatient, crisis stabilization or substance abuse treatment strongly preferred. Knowledge of general mental health and substance abuse best practices, and ethical guidelines of profession. Specific knowledge of emergency psychiatric assessment and referral, crisis intervention, risk assessment, and psychiatric consultation. Knowledge of DSM IV and diagnostic assessment. Thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices, and their application to complex casework, group work, and psychosocial problems and their treatment. Considerable knowledge of family and group dynamics and a range of intervention techniques. Considerable knowledge of governmental and private organizations and resources in the community. Considerable knowledge of the laws, regulations, and policies which govern the program. General knowledge of the methods and principles of casework supervision and based on medical or psychological diagnosis.

Salary : Grade/Step is determined by qualifications and experience of candidate. Position is full time with comprehensive benefits. Position is exempt from overtime.
