Title :   Community Collaboration Specialist

General Statement of the Job : This position assists in the development and implementation of preventative, educational and outreach programs. This position will also assist in establishing and facilitating Community Collaboration and Coordination with local stakeholders and Community Partners, general education to the community and outreach activities to un-served and under-served populations. This position will be assist for facilitating interagency coordination and collaboration through formal processes as well as for an annual community assessment and plan of activities. This position will liaison with community agencies such as schools, law enforcement, courts, human service agencies, advocacy organizations, and others. Additionally, this position will be assisting in the development of educational material, an annual report, and other information for community dissemination about the LME and the scope of its activities and responsibilities.

Essential Job Functions : Community Education – Provide prevention, education and outreach services for developmental disabilities, mental illness, and substance abuse, with specific emphasis on best practice and cultural competence. Provide presentations designed to educate the community about the needs of disabled people and the importance of removing the stigma of developmental disabilities, mental illness and substance abuse. Person will also be required to developed educational presentations. This education will also be provided in the form of training for key community members who come into contact with consumers including law enforcement, teachers, emergency room staff, community groups, churches and faith based organizations, public agency partners and others as identified. Incumbent will represent SMC at community exhibits and fairs, as requested. Additionally, the incumbent will lead focus groups and stakeholder forums to obtain further information about community education needs.
Community Collaboration – Represent the organization in the community, including serving on various boards and committees as the mental health designee and increase community awareness of SMC. Engage developmental disability providers, advocacy groups, consumers, family members, and other stakeholders in the community collaborative process. Work with advocacy groups to identify areas of interest and concerns for consumers, families and other stakeholders. Assist in conducting surveys and other information gathering processes to obtain necessary data to complete the LME’s annual community assessment and annual community plan for prevention, education and outreach programs. Attend community meetings and ethnic group meetings to gather information and data about cultural diversity and competency needs. Participate in the design of consumer and providers surveys and review findings as related to community relations, cultural competency, and educational needs.

Minimum Training and Qualifications : BS degree in psychology, social work, education, health, business administration or related human service field and one year of experience in professional level treatment programming for the applicable client population; or a bachelor's degree in one of the fields listed above and two years of experience as indicated above; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Experience in any of the following areas would be valuable for this employee: Public speaking, presentation development, group facilitation, advocacy, regulations compliance and project management.

Physical Requirements : Normal range of motion and reasonable physical health and strength will be required. Must have driver’s license and must be able to use computers, copiers and other office equipment will be used routinely.

Knowledge of Job : A level of diplomacy and discretion is required to effectively negotiate and resolve issues. This will require interpersonal skills, highly effective communication ability, and the propensity to make prompt independent decisions based upon relevant facts. Problem solving and conflict resolution skills are essential.
As a Community Collaboration Specialist, the employee must have a general knowledge in mental health, developmental disabilities and substance abuse. The employee must have a willingness to become proficient in all disability areas, including areas where co-occurring illnesses exist. The person must be well spoken and able to quickly establish rapport, credibility and rapport with others, as well as communicate clearly and effectively.

Salary : Grade/Step is determined by qualification and experience of candidate. Position is full-time salary with comprehensive benefits. Salary Range is $36,438-$41,604Work schedule is 37.5 hours per week. This position is exempt from overtime compensation.
