Michigan Department of Community Health TBI Provider Training Manual
This 61-page downloadable document includes an introduction on TBI, explanation of brain structures and types of injuries, effects of TBI with strategies to address the behavioral, physical and cognitive consequences, family involvement, suggestions for working with someone with TBI, and appendices that include rating scales and help identifying a possible TBI. Available as a free download.

Veterans Health Initiative – Department of Veterans Affairs
A 177-page comprehensive independent study course on TBI. Focus is on military-related injuries, but all may find the information helpful. Providers will find the “a guide for families” section helpful for printout and distribution, as well as the section on how to answer frequently asked questions from the family. Providers may find helpful the section on the interplay of cognitive and emotional problems—particularly the illustration of neurological symptoms that present like psychological symptoms. Also useful are sections on the elderly and driving issues. Available as a free download. Follow the links to the TBI study guide.

University of Alabama at Birmingham – home-based cognitive stimulation program manual
Downloadable document with activities for skill building in the following areas: fine motor, attention/concentration, memory-orientation, reasoning/problem solving, visual spatial skills, and language skills. Activities are arranged by progressively more challenging levels of difficulty. Also useful are appendices with a list of additional resources and a list of popular games that can be used to address specific areas of cognition. Information is accessible for free.
